The Biology Department invites applications for a tenure-track position in Cellular and Molecular Biology at the Assistant Professor level, beginning August 2009. We seek an individual with a Ph.D., postdoctoral research experience in cellular & molecular biology and demonstrated ability to teach at the college level. The successful candidate will be expected to contribute to core departmental courses including Cellular & Molecular Biology, Introductory Biology for majors, and upper level courses in area of specialty, and to establish an active research program involving students. The Biology Department has 20 faculty members and offers undergraduate programs in Biology and Biology teaching and M.S. programs in Ecology and Organismal Biology, Cellular and Molecular Biology, and General Biology. Eastern Michigan University, with an enrollment of 22,000 students, is located in Ypsilanti, adjacent to Ann Arbor, in southeastern Michigan. EMU has a nationally recognized, award-winning science education program and produces more educational professionals than any other U.S. educational institution. We are seeking an individual either with a Ph.D in biology or with an Ed.D, D.Sc. or D.A. plus a Masters degree with emphasis in biology. Teacher certification at any K-12 level, K-12 classroom teaching experience and demonstrated ability to teach at the college level are also required. The successful candidate will be expected to teach courses in methods for teaching K-12 biology, contribute to the professional development and assessment of teachers, conduct active research in Biology or Science Education, and interact with faculty from other departments. The Department of Biological Sciences at Michigan Technological University invites
applications for the position of Chair to begin in the 2009-2010 academic year. The chair will be responsible for managing the academic and financial affairs of the department, the development and growth of our undergraduate and graduate programs, and resource development. The chair is expected to maintain a dynamic research program compatible with existing departmental strengths in biochemistry and molecular biology, ecology and limnology, and the health sciences. The successful candidate will have achieved the academic rank of Associate or full Professor, and possess a distinguished record of research, teaching, and procurement of extramural funding.
We seek an individual with the vision and skills to elevate the department’s prominence in biological research, further our strong tradition of educational excellence, and grow our MS and PhD programs. The chair is expected to foster collaborations with other departments, centers and institutions; and advance the department’s position as a key player in life science initiatives such as sustainability and biotechnology.
